Casey Boyd 5 December 2008

Stylist of wardrobe, props, hair + make-up, concepts, and design
I graduated from the University of Oregon in 1997 studying Advertising and Fine Arts.
Living in Venice, California throughout my 20’s I did Production, Wardrobe Styling and Set Design/Props predominantly in the the Commercial Film Industry. Toward the end of my time residing in LA I worked almost exclusively with group of Swedish Directors @ Traktor Films.
Now days I specialize in Styling for Commercial Photography, Film and Video. Paying attention to detail is crucial as the simplest elements ranging from the watch a person is wearing to the smallest safety pin holding a pair of prop-reading glasses together can really say something about a character.
I enjoy this industry more than ever these days and feel that there is a tremendous amount of talent in Portland. I am fortunate to live in a great city and do what I love for a living.
What are you up to?
I am currently working on both photography and film/video projects. I enjoy both mediums and love the differences and similarities.
I am constantly updating my website which showcases my photography/print work. I also work closely with a few editors in town updating my video reel.
I am shopping for representation again in the LA market as I am beginning to work more and more down there. I am fortunate enough to stay busy here in Portland though love the diversity of both markets.
What do you do best?
I feel my strengths are character/scenario building. I love to bring personal elements to the characters/talent and models we are working with, I feel wardrobe and set design can really create a story. There is a fine line and I always say “it should never look as though I was there”; meaning a shot should never look over-styled nor should the styling be too dominating. When images look and feel natural the more people can relate to them…
When did you begin working in this industry?
I began as a production assistant for large commercial productions while I was still in College. I would travel to LA during the summers and work for various production companies. It began in 1995 though my father was a prop man in the industry so I have grown up around biz throughout most of my life.
Which department did you work in first?
I was a Production Assistant, Producers Assistant, Set Decorator, Wardrobe Assistant, then Wardrobe Stylist
When did you relocate to Portland?
I moved back to Portland in 2002. I have been back since June of 2002 so soon it will be 7 years since my return. I have seen Portland change so much in thsse years and even in hard times the industry here is very alive!
